transcoding\encoding higher clock or hyperthreading?

which do you think is better? i have tried testing but have been getting inconsistent results. been using avidemux and handbrake.

speeds would be 4.5 ht 4.6 ht
non ht are 4.5 4.6 4.7 4.8

i have read that ht vs non ht can be anywhere from 7-15% diff. but didn't see at what speed that was at. so would 4.5 ht beat 4.6 non ht? or even 4.7 non ht?
This also is not a permanent profile if ht is better. the games i play currently work better on non ht. so if ht is better i would save it as a bios profile and switch to it when encoding.

thoughts?

Depends on how well things are optimized. Nobody can answer what will be faster on your system better than you can by making the comparisons yourself.

Thats part of my problem. even running same vid file with same settings. example run once get 14min 16 sec restart run same file settings and get 15 30 or 13 12. with alll same settings i keep getting diffrent results.
possibly another way to look at this is a benchmarking app that uses x264 encoding? maybe that will give more stable results.

Yep just run whatever is relevant to you, and if it's inconclusive, don't worry about it too much.

As Noden says, use realbench encoding, this is my default stress settings, and its results are consistent not haywire.
