Feedback/Input on 3970X overclock

I would like to get some input and self-validation from the pros here... 4.7 GHz only requires 1.368v for 100 percent stability, but I can also run 4.9 GHz at 1.408v. That's not a massive increase in voltage - not small, but not overly degrading I believe.

Pertinent settings below:

--3970X @ 4.9 GHz--

vCore - 1.408 - 1.416 @ 100 percent load (IBT)
VTT - 1.175
VCCSA - 1.175
PLL - 1.775
CPU LLC - Regular
CPU Current Limit - 180%
C-States - All disabled except for C1E
SpeedStep - Enabled
HT - Enabled

I am running the memory at 1866, regular LLC as well. 1.55v DRAM voltage for stability. Temps max out with IBT at 82C. Idle at 32C. Hard-gaming - 60C. I don't fold, bench, etc. Simply 50/50 gaming/workstation.

Would you guys run this 24/7 if it was your rig?

With that cooling you are good to go. Nice CPU and very nice system.

Thanks HiViz! I appreciate the feedback. These extreme series CPU's natively require so much more voltage than the other SB-E and IVB-E so it sort of throws me off sometimes - I just like to get community feedback : )

The jump to 5.0 GHz is sick though... 1.44v minimum, and I can't keep the temps down during any stress tests. 4.9 GHz is definitely maxes the heat coefficient of my water loop at room temperature.

Looks like 49x is your tipping point mate. I would be happy with that myself.

I think that those settings from the OP are safe for 24/7, specially if the temps are not going over 75C during your regular usage...

I would not stress the CPU too much with IBT, if the system is stable enough for your needs (games/work) then that's it...

Thanks Zka17. I am in full support of HiViz's thoughts with stress testing - they cause too much tunnel vision concerning stability. I usually only run about 10 passes of IBT and maybe an hour or two of P95/RealBench to test things out, mainly both for stability and heat saturation in my loop.

I did eventually get a BSOD 101 which I got stable by upping vcore to 1.42v. Not worth the extra wattage I think, so did back it back down to my normal 4.8 GHz though as 4.9 GHz just didn't show enough improvement for 24/7 usage, or in benchmarks. 4.8 GHz hums along at 1.389v just fine and knocks a few degrees off the the max core temps.

I thought 4.9 GHz might have been the sweet spot, but it appears that 4.7 - 4.8 is. Still, the silicone lottery has been good to me I'd say.
