hello,
what type of SSD should I put in this machine?

2 types: 1x 7.0mm/9.5mm 2.5" and 1x full sized msata ssd.

you can also swap your dvdrom drive with 12.7mm sata-to-sata hdd caddy to put in another 2.5".

what is out there memory size wise?

I have seen as high as 512+ GB for 2.5", and 256 GB for the mSata, though I'm certain you could find something larger if you are willing to spend a whole lot of money.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

i'm sorry I didn't get it. do you mean the internal RAM in the ssd or the common total NAND sizes of the ssd's?

no.. @Zygo i really meant RAM. except for sandforce-controller-based ssd's, ssd's controllers use RAM to operate inside the ssd. i use NAND to mean NAND flash memory chips that store data 🙂

if you're talking about capacities, the maximum capacity for consumer msata and 2.5" ssd's are currently 1tb (samsung evo).

imo the sweet spot for now is the 240gb range (240gb to 256gb) in terms of performance/price.

Sorry about my pre-emptive correction. Teach me to think that I know something. 😛 Thanks for taking it good naturedly and letting me know, I've gone back and fixed the post back to what you had originally. I hadn't thought about the RAM for the caching, just the actual storage, since laptop HDDs often have fixed cache sizes (8 MB for 5400 RPM, 16 MB for 7200 RPM, 32 MB for hybrids).

hey it's fine 🙂 well, i should have thought of the NAND flash memory first, instead of the RAM size haha (was over-thinking it :D)
