what is wise? 4930k VS 3930k/3960x
I have sold my haswell rig all together for a good price and im starting from scratch
i am going for x79.
i read everywere that ivy-e clocks bad so now i wonder if it isnt smart to go for sandy-e.
which would bring me the better Benchrig? ivy-e or sandy-e

You have to bin to get a good CPU with both of them. Simple as that.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Ivy-E, because the clock-for-clock comparison method is misleading, and reports of poor overclocking are exacerbated by users on low-end mobos with bad bios. 4.6ghz @ 1.4v is the average "max oc" on 4930K, and it will outperform a SB-e at 4.8ghz. And that's not even taking into account the stronger IMC. You do the math.
Asus RIVBE • i7 4930K @ 4.7ghz • 8gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 CL8
2xSLI EVGA GTX 770 SC • Creative X-Fi Titanium • 2x 840 SSD + 1TB Seagate Hybrid
EVGA Supernova 1300W• Asus VG278H & nVidia 3d Vision
Phanteks Enthoo Primo w/ custom watercooling:
XSPC Raystorm (cpu & gpu), XSPC Photon 170, Swiftech D5 vario
Alphacool Monsta 360mm +6x NB e-loop, XT45 360mm +6x Corsair SP120

Hmm it's a difficult one and one I have just been facing in a roundabout way...I have gone with SB-E until now... it does seem true you knock 300MHz off SB-E and IB-E keeps up....SB-E at 5.0 GHz is matched pretty much by IB-E at 4.7GHz. But if you can't get IB-E past 4.6 then maybe a SB-E....
IB-E has more robust IMC...and can handle higher frequencies but the timings of IB-E kits are another story....
Viz has a good Ivy....Menthol got a pretty decent one...4.9GHZ but he's going back to sandy....it's a difficult one mate.
I have voted SB-E in the poll because that's the way I went...but I have investment in SB-E and SB-E RAM etc....
Starting from scratch I might well have gone RIVBE and IB-E.

i assumed TS was talking about using the chip for benchmarking at around 5200-5300 mhz
the chance of scoring a 5200mhz SBE, is huge , i think most of them will do 5200mhz without any major concerns..Last edited by Rockford; 01-06-2014 at 05:00 PM.

Well, you're right, for those frequencies I'd say the lottery would be a lot easier with SB-E...with IB-E you'd have to be real lucky...
