What I am trying to say is that in both cases it's luck or binning that defines if you get a good chip. And if you get a good chip, getting an IB-E good chip is better than an SB-E good chip in terms of performance (clock values don't matter).
Agreed 100%. I keep preaching this from the mountaintops on ever forum I participate in, but people just keep perpetuating the falsehood that "IB-e doesn't clock well"

IMO it's the long-established and highly visible pool of quality overclocking Sandy Bridge-e's that make the newly established pool of IB-e's look bad. It's just an optical illusion, though.

Well I am most disappointed in my 4930k. Knew they were dogs for voltage going into it but I really got a dog. Chip requires 1.485 Vc for a 4.7 OC. That was bad enough but even worse, it won't look at windows at anything above 4.8.

Sorry to say but my 3960x on it's worse day will eat this chip for lunch. Not to mention it's been doing 4.8 at 1.385 Vc for 1.5 years now.

My experience is if you are not interested in OCing than the new chips run at very low temps, really low it seems. If you are looking for clocks for benching, lol, keep looking.

    Hi Rog people,
to hear your opinions I have removed any residual desire to switch to 4930K.
I was going to do this sin of gluttony, contrary to my old theory of change only when the new platform outperforms the old by at least 50%, not to throw away money needlessly.
But now I think I'll keep to my account 3930K @ 4650 Mhz, which with its 165 GFlops, who knows how much longer will stand the comparison, before a new platform exceeds 220 GFlops .... because I'm not interested in Mhz clock, but the Gflops performance. That is why I voted against i7 4930K!
Of course unless that a lightning does not put an end to his life ... as it happened to my previous i7-960!

    Greetings to all of you

    At this point Sando,

That would be sounds advice at this point on the eve basically of a new platform [X-99] coming up. The Haswell -E's Later this year will be a whole new animal. I still can't fathom needing the 2 additional cores for anything in the application world right now. We'll see how demanding Windows Threshold will be here in the summer on the present 6 cores.. i'f I were in your show I would bother upgrading the CPU either.

    Ok FireRX,

We'll see what promise the X99 platform: if its performance will be above 220-240 GFlops then it will be worth replacing the CPU, MBoard, the Ram, etc ... but if the increase is given by the two more cores, it is more disappointment.
But if the result is just for a new CPU, to have only 20-40 GFlops more .... then I hope that the good Lord protect my 3930K!

    Greetings to you, FireRX

4.8GHz with Phase Change cooling is seriously underachieving. You should be able to take it beyond 5GHz. Pump some vcore into that chip, it'll never overheat with Phase Change cooling. I've got my 3930k @5.1GHz with 1.488v and it can go way higher with more time and tweaking.

I read once that each I-BE CPU had it's own max temp coded into it....values from 91 to 95 degrees so maybe the best thing is to download RealTemp and look at TJMax value there...

RealTemp has not been calibrated for IB-E chips for sure. Last version is old enough. CoreTemp has a recent version but I'm not sure it has been calibrated for IB-E either.. :/
