Regarding the updating of RB components.

As MarshalR said, it is not possible to allow modification of subcomponents because it can be used for cheating. If I can't verify the integrity of handbreak binaries for examples, what's to stop x-y user with programming knowledge to create a special version of handbreak that does nothing at all but return ok-encoding-done in 30 seconds and use that to cheat?

Components will be updated from time to time after I carefully test them and verify that they work properly, they offer no cheating loopholes and only increase performance. IF performance is increased then there's no issue with the leaderboards because people can bench with new version. If a component upgrade decreases performance then that would require to restrict all previous versions from uploading and also clear the entire leaderboard. Otherwise people would just stick with the old version or, in the case of only restricting uploads from older versions, it would be unfair to new people that have not had scores in the leaderboard yet.

    Regarding any "security" concerns:
You can be absolutely certain that you will have no security concerns whatsoever as long as you download from an official source. Regardless of any subcomponent upgrades etc.
RB is designed to have its own ecosystem. This means that it does not rely or use any other software, media or data installed in your system. Everything it uses is what's contained in the RB folders and subfolders. Even if VLC fixed a security vulnerability (eg a buffer underrun that allows arbitrary code execution via crafting a specialized media file) IT DOES NOT AFFECT YOU IN ANY WAY (caps for emphasis). Why? Because VLC is used in RB to only play a specific video file. Nothing else. Now if you go and use the VLC player inside RB to play random files you downloaded from the internet, something it's not supposed to do, then it's not RB that poses a security hole but the user, trying to do things they should not.

Upgrades to components will happen when the new versions offer performance gains (because it's only logical), they offer no issues and when it's needed in order to support new hardware.

Nice Meankeys! That's a serious openCL score you got there.

And I love your cpu, I'm positive it can go higher since you're only at 1.48Vcore. Let me know if it's for sale, my 3930k died :/
