What is better

Lets not worry about costs.

I am running a Maximus V Formula with an i7 3770K and have it at a comfortable 4.7 GHz at 1.32 V (H100i)

Now, I have a choice between the H100i, a Noctua NH D14.

Here is my question.

Would building my own liquid cooling system enable me to get low enough temps to go faster?
If so, what coolant would be best?

Thanks in advance

Hi JimmyH, You seem to have a very good 3770k. There is a point where your cpu will hit a wall and need a lot more voltage to hit the next 100 MHz. and I guarantee you, you are almost there. A custom water cooling set up would not even help you when you hit the wall. You might be able to hit 4.8 - 4.9 GHz. tops and in my opinion would not be worth it to do so. A custom water cooling set up will only gain you a few degrees lower in temps. Go with the H100i.

That's my point, I need that couple of extra degree's. Maybe de-lidding? Anyway, going to get some faster RAM very soon, maybe I will try then.

I have a H100i.

If I run the stress test from RealBench 2.0, my core voltage goes up to 1.36 v and the max temp on core #2 is 86 C
