I have a Asus G750JW with a 250 ssd from Samsung as OS drive and 750 HD. I got win 8.1 and I have a very strange and scary thing going on, every few minutes on a NON regular intervals there is a sound that I will describe as a camera shatter (like on the phone) - it not exactly the same sound but it is the closest, It (as far as I can tell) come from the top left side of the keyboard panel. If I use earphones it still makes the sound but not in the earphones.
I scanned the computer with the antivirus that is with win 8.1 (defender or essential i think) and all is clean...
Any Ideas...
Please help
Thank you

also there is no specific action I do and the laptop is always on. It happens around every 20-30 minutes and then an hour or so and then 10 minutes... but not regular intervals or so

Are you sure it isn't just the DVD drive spinning up? When i open/launch certain programs the drive likes to spin up for a split second even though no disc is in there, I guess it feels left out since I never use discs lol.

Anywho, let me know if that is all your sound is.

Oh, and has this always happened, or is it something new?

Well it is not the dvd drive... it is also as best as I can say comes from "above" the dvd (like - above the f3 - f2 keys)... any other ideas... maybe some diagnostics software I can run... or should I take it back to the store... ???

It seems I should have Googled first. This is an issue that seems to be widespread and across multiple versions of WIndows and different computer brands. I would suggest doing your own Google search and try out a few of the things you find, although there doesn't seem to be a clear cut explanation for the sound.

Good luck, let us know if anything solved it.

Has your G750 always made this sound, or is it something new?

If you haven't run any stress tests yet, do me a favor and download:
Prime95 http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/ (the site looks a little bland, but I promise it is legit)
HWMonitor http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Run a stress test on your CPU with Prime95, monitor temps with HWMonitor and don't let the temp hit 90*C (it shouldn't) and come back and let me know if it triggers the sound.

My best guess at the moment is the sound is coming from the CPU fan motor, or something connected to it, since that is the only moving part at that location of the motherboard. It would also explain why the sound is random since the fan motor only work as hard as needed, if the temps stay low then the fan only work on low rpm. I'm trying to put some stress on your CPU to get the fan up to full speed and force the sound.

If the test runs fine, temps stay low, and there is no sound then we will try something else next.

Thanks Reka I will follow the link you added and see how deep the rabbit hole goes 🙂
