Asus ROG G75VW ..... can I upgrade the CPU to a 3840QM ? + is the Screen eDP ?

Hi all

Title basically says it all.

I am quite a competant *desktop* builder but with Laptops, all Ive done is RAM and SSD's

I am about to buy a 2nd hand Asus ROG G75VW running a 3610QM and I can also get a Mobile 3840QM quite cheaply.

So .... my questions are:-

Firstly:-

=> is the CPU in these the soldered-in type [ BGA ] or the "standard " drop-in type ?

also

=> how hard is it to get to the CPU in one of these to change it ?

=> is it like a 15 min job or more like a 1 - 2 hour job ?

Secondly:-

=> is the on-board Laptop Screen on the ROG G75VW eDP [ extended Dsiplay Port ] or the older LVDS ?

Thanks,

The CPU Can be changed.

It gets easy after so many times disassembling it.

When you are going to open it for the first time. Just follow a YouTube guide.
Plus make sure you keep the screws in order. There really are quite a lot of screws x)

No need to be a DICK. 🙂 I didn't LIE. I made a mistake. I was thinking GPU instead of CPU.

While you are in there.
Why not get a new wireless card?
I'd recommend the intel 7260 AC card
Gets better signal, faster speeds too and stable 🙂

The GPU is also not soldered on the G75 series 😛

I think the only things that are soldered are on the G46 and G55 series is the GPU.

Even the G46 can change the CPU to a 3840QM

It's some of he G750 series that have a soldered CPU the intel 4xxxMQ ones I think

Plus I've seen some cheap 3740QM/3840QM's on eBay. But they were engineering samples, and bga's converted to pga's (soldered CPU's converted to standard ones) but not sure how the performance and stability would be, so I didn't get one.
