I am no lawyer, but if my understanding of the DMCA is correct, Apple cannot sue ASUS for the threads, even if they wanted to. They could send a take-down notice, and then one of us would have to delete the thread, but ASUS is not responsible for the actions of those who use its services. Now if ASUS does it, then they are liable. We'll let the ASUS guys weigh in on this, and decide on the route going forward.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

We now have 178 people whose systems will not break! Yippee!
LINUX Users, we have a group!

Software piracy is an absolute no-no. Please report posts that admit to it or encourage it.

The points raised here will be discussed as to ASUS' position on legality, as we like to air on the side of freedom of voice when possible. ASUS' position is that we strongly recommend sticking with the Windows OS pre-installed on the laptops we sell, but ultimately once you buy it what you do with it is entirely your choice; we will not support it beyond the OS we provide.

In order to install Mavericks on a PC, first a person has to obtain a copy of Apple software, usually illegally from torrents. The other way is to buy an upgrade disk from Apple from an earlier version of Mac OSX. The software is then illegally modified to allow it to install on non-Apple hardware, not including the fact that it violates the Apple ToE. Even if the original upgrade software was purchased, Mavericks is only free to download and upgrade only to existing versions of Mac OSX, no authorized version, then obtaining the software is theft or piracy.

Lot of issues with that discussion thread!
you need to realise the difference between illegal and violation of eula. they are not the same.

i bought my copy of mountain lion and then did a free upgrade to mavericks.
I would not expect any official help or support from anyone at Asus.

but if you check my post #6, i am also surprised the thread is still up

I do see why you feel the need to advertice the IOS thread here, and if it wasnt for you tkolarik, I would never have read it.
Just like I do see why I'm wasting precious seconds of my life to respond to this tread.

Lets meet some day and waste some time together..
