Overclocking help

It seems to me that I am still not achieving the full performance my computer can put out

Corsair 600t
Asus Crosshair V Formula-z
FX 8150
Corsair h100i
AMD R9 Series Gamer RAM 16gb 4x4gb
Sapphire HD7970 (reference card?)
128gb Samsung SSD
2tb WD HDD
Windows 7 Home 64-bit...

Currently I have my gpu overclock (cant remember the specs off hand). I did notice a slight performance increase after doing so, regardless if its the best OC for that card or not... I know very little to OC'ing so i didnt tweak with it too much. However, i feel as though i should have better perfomance and fps. Crysis i know depends heavily on the gpu, but its kinda weird that even with the graphics set to high i get considerable lag to where it makes me not even interested playing the game. Others like DMC I get wicked fps on max settings (60+fps).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done browsing around between all sorts of forums, but between not understanding some things, or people simply getting off track about OC'ing.

I'm not a gamer, but I know for sure that in order to have good 3D performance, you do need to have similarly good 2D performance too… - with other words, you may need to push your CPU too…

I have that CHFV-Z+FX8350 combo, with that H100i you should be able to reach 4.6-4.8GHz easily - obviously if you were lucky on the chip lottery (every chip is different)…

If you're completely new to OC'ing, I would suggest you to start with reading… I do suggest manual OC'ing from BIOS - forget any BIOS or OS presets!

Check this guide for start: http://rog.asus.com/216552013/crosshair-motherboards/guide-overclocking-fx-8350-to-4-8ghz-on-crossha...

Crysis is a seriously heavy game on the GPU. What resolution are you driving? 1080p High with FXAA should be about 60fps but 2560x1440 will drop you to 40fps more or less...if you try to run MSAA you will chop those FPS numbers by a lot so check your exact settings.

Of course OCing the GPU and CPU will help. As long as you go about it with a keen eye on temps you´ll be OK...I think the reference 7970 easily clocks to 1GHz if I'm not mistaken and that can give you quite a performance boost!

I will have to check all of the in depth specs of what I'm overclocked to on my gpu when I get home. I do know that I'm playing on a resolution of 1920x1080 using an hdmi cord. however, I had to tweak it a bit to match up fully on my screen. but when I use a dvi cord, it automatically fits to the screen with having to tweak it by, overscan I think it was called?

i have an fx 8150 build with cooler master seidon 120
it is my old pc that i have 2x ati raedon 4850 crossfirex
can you install 3dmark vantage and performance test 8.0 , perform your computer.See which is wrong.
I had low score on memory (Gskill ripjaws 8gb 1600mhz / m5a97 le r.20)
sometimes fx 8150 seems uncompitable with other hardwares.

so, i followed that guide. everything seemed to be running stable at 4.8, ran crysis, froze mid game and got the wonderful bsod. i might also mention that i did tweak the gpu a little, knock the gpu back down, still got a bsod. Therefore im assuming that the overclock @ 4.8ghz is unstable correct?

yes 4.8 ghz would be unstable in home. i have problem fx8150 in diablo3. when i maximazed settings diablo3 starts frozen most of the time.I think the ram makes the problem.Seems your ram score low too.
