How many GB of ram for budget gaming

Well a guy I know is doing a budget build and really hasn't decide what parts to get so I'm helping him out.
He has only so much that he can spend on this build. What he doing is playing games on a 23" led 1920x1080 monitor.
It for checking his emails, pics, gaming and watch videos. So how much ram can he get away with 4GB or 8GB. The setup I told him to build has 8GB. Like I said money kind of tight. Here a list of the parts I put together for him.
(he love this case and will not change his mind on this) LOL.

Intel setup
-----------------
Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Military Green Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case,
Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics,
Kingston HyperX Black 8GB,
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD),
Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue,
ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard,
ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card,
EVGA 600 B 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified 600W Active PFC ATX12V v2.31/EPS 12V v2.91 3 Year Warranty 100-B1-0600-KR Power Supply,
CORSAIR Hydro Series H105 Extreme Performance 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler,
NZXT CB-LED10-RD Sleeved LED Kit - Red, 1 m ( or u can have blue, orange, green or white)

Total with shipping $1,236.01

Now here my AMD setup for him

NZXT Source 210 case,
AMD A10-7850K Kaveri 3.7GHz Socket FM2+ 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor AMD Radeon R7 series, (free game),
MSI A88X-G45 GAMING FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard,
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan (can add extra 120mm fan),
Kingston HyperX Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model,
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD),
Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue,
MSI R9 270 GAMING 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card (AMD Graphic Card),
EVGA 600 B 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified 600W power supply,
NZXT CB-LED20-RD Sleeved LED Kit - Red, 2 m (light kit for indes your case.),
Cooler Master Sleeve Bearing 120mm Silent Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators (Value 4-Pack)

Now the bad it $960 that with shipping. plus you get $25 back in rebates. If he still wants water cooling he can get one.
Really I need everyone info on the RAM part. Should I get him to go with 4GB or 8GB DDR3!

8 for a budget build but not 1 stick. Get 2x4GB sticks. MATCHED PAIRS.

It 2X4. I always get pairs. either dual channel or quad channel. The only time I use one stick is if I'm testing to see if one of the ram sticks is dead.

2x4 gb is good. You should buy better graphic card before 16 gb ram.

That PSU is a piece of garbage though for the $$$$. It's not Haswell ready for one... Please don't skimp and just throw a Rosewill Capstone 750 Modular in there. If you skimp the PSU the entire system will have issues down the road and it's bad for the components....

I agree... don't save money on the PSU if you want long life and reliability...

Exactly. Capstone has a 7-year warranty as well. It's a rebranded Super Flower if you want to know who the OEM is.
