G53J-Video Card bad? Artifacts? Crashing on Games/youtube

Retired

I bought this asus G53J around 4 months ago, and a few minutes ago, I got a weird video crash. Youtube videos flashed between what was playing, and a green field where that video was. A few seconds later, the screen went black (as in, the screen was off) and came back, saying that the NVIDIA card had crashed, and had recovered. This also happened when trying to launch World of Warcraft after a restart, whereas before I was able to enter the game, but everything was messed up as far as graphics go, and it crashed with the same error a few seconds later. there is a picture of the error. The laptop IS IN WARRENTY. I'd like to fix this if possible, or get a replacement if its not. Basically, this is not only a computer I use for gaming, but more importantly this is my college laptop for papers, research, etc. I need to get it fixed. This laptop is ON A DESK WITH GOOD CIRCULATION so it should not be an overheating problem at all. Not sure what to do.

Update your Nvidia Display Adapter driver to begin with. Then see what happens. 😉

If the driver from the nVidia site won't install go to Chastity's Driver Thread and try one with a modded INF
Read the User's Manual for more info. 😄

A few quick questions for you, the browser(s) you're running are they fully patched, ie up to IE9/Firefox7/Chrome14 have you fully updated directx from the following url? Also have you tried to disable hardware acceleration within your browsers and verify in the games you're playing if you're using DirectX 9 or DirectX 11 to render? -- Note in World of Warcraft there is a selectable drop down menu to say if you want to use DirectX 9 or DirectX 11.

When the video driver crashes does it leave anything in your system logs if you right click on "My Computer" and go to manage?

Yes, I have both the latest version of directx and the latest version of the NVIDIA driver. In fact, after installing the latestversion, the error simply changed the number to reflect the update. This error also crashed league of legends.

Stonewall, to check to see if the unit is overheating load and run the software http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html start the software after your system first boots so you get a close to idle temp reading of your cpu/gpu followed by leave it running

Do you get this same error if you're running the Asus supplied drivers from either the CD or from http://support.asus.com ?

For this error sadly the fix I used won't work for you in the 100% same way I put it into place.

On the G73Jh this error was resolved for me by upgrading the Bios followed by the vBios & video drivers.

Also, have you followed Chastity's thread & installed all the latest recommended drivers such as the chipset/rapid storage/etc?
