i've been a loyal fan of bios 1503 since quite some time back (due to the stability it brings when running Gskill's twin memory sticks @2400 MHz). today i took the leap of faith and updated to bios 2002.
findings:
- Stock Setings. couple more new options are available in the extreme tweaker tab. some i'm not too familiar with.
- tried setting the memory to run at 2400 MHz, exactly the same as in bios 1503 (cross check each settings). result: error E8. failed to resume from S3 ( i've been having this problem on bios versions larger than 1504, so not too surprising anymore).
- D.O.C.P. profile #0 (stored inside the ram itself). result: resume from S3 sleep failure.
- D.O.C.P. profile #1 (fsb 222 MHz, core ratio 18.0 set by the DOCP profile). i'm using AMD FX 8350. result: resume from sleep success. but upon windows restart, it wouldn't post up normally. abandoned this setting too.
- manual setting: auto on most other settings. memory profile: DDR3-2133 MHz. CL 10-12-12-31. DDR voltage: 1.65v. result: success resume from S3 sleep. windows restart working normally.
below is the result from AIDA64 benchmark:
RAM: twin Gskill F3-2400C10-8GTX.
- memory read took a little hit if compared to bios 1503 @2400 MHz. was around 26000-27000 MB/s iirc.
- CPU vcore is what caught my eye. on bios 1503, idle, vcore was at 0.88v. bios 2002's idle vcore 0.840v. load vcore seemed to be lower too. but i didn't remember bios 1503's load vcore values. current bios 2002's load vcore tops around 1.35v.
conclusion: i don't mind taking a slight hit in memory read and running it slightly slower than the advertised ram specs. generally happy with it. tweaking beyond the auto value is probably out of my knowledge range (unless RAJA@ASUS is here to guide me the way). 🙂
