G73 HDMI input - LVDS controller board

One thing I'd really love to have on my G73JW, is an HDMI input for the monitor, and there doesn't seem to be any USB 3.0 (or other) HDMI input cards or the like, which provide anywhere near the level of low-latency that I want, for gaming.

So, I'm thinking of trying to achieve this in another, much more ugly/hacky way: By disconnecting the monitor LVDS cable, and attaching it to an external LCD controller board, such as this one, and then plugging in the HDMI output of the G73 into that for normal use, and plugging in the other computer when I want to use it 🙂

Has anyone done something like this before? The idea is basically to be able to use the G73 as a terminal, plugged into a powerful desktop computer (with input routed to that computer over LAN) - basically giving me the advantages of a fully upgraded computer, on my ageing (yet still perfectly good) laptop.
