Hiss/white noise when plugging in Headphones?

Hey ROG!

I just received a g750jm and I am loving it! The only issue is that the hiss/white noise is killing it for me.

I have searched the forums and saw that it is due to low impedance, yet I have Sennsheiser HD555 which have 120 Ohm limit. Is there any way to reduce the hiss thru the maxxaudio settings?

Thanks!

dLIGHT, it also might be the Realtek driver settings for power saving. I thought that was fixed in the latest version - it sets the power saving OFF for AC power and leaves it on for Battery power. Are you hearing the hiss on AC or battery, or both?

Here is a link that lists the Registry entries affecting the power saving settings:

If you still have hiss, might I suggest moving to a USB amp, or USB DAC/Amp:

Also, try other headphones to see if that gets rid of the hiss. I have had past experience trying to fix the wrong end of the problem, and if I had just tried other elements I would have avoided a lot of wasted time - there was nothing wrong with the new part, it was the part I thought was good 🙂

I have had no hiss with Sony MDR-XB500 on the JW/JX/JH, and they are only 40 ohm.

I was considering a USB DAC/amp, and went with the Sennheiser RS-220 connected to the G750 with the TOSLINK optical built into the headphone jack - no hiss and awesome sound. If you like your headphones, then the USB DAC/amp would be a good way to go.

Let us know how it goes dLIGHT 🙂

Sadly those reg files are no longer available. Do you know where I could them somewhere else? Thanks for the help!

just launch regedit

then navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtek\RAVCpl64\PowerMgnt

now double click on ENABLED from the right pane and change the value from 1 to 0

then reboot and enjoy

I've tried editing the registry but it did not fix the issue.

Tindrael, which issue, you haven't posted in this thread before... crackling or white noise, or?

Did you reboot after making the registry change?

If it is background hiss during silent passages, and not crackling, it is caused by using low impedance headphones with the G750 headphone amp.

There are numerous threads discussing this, search the forum for headphone impedance

What headphones do you use with your g750?
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35545-What-headphones-do-you-use-with-your-g750&p=291697&vi...

My 40 ohm headphones have no hiss, others have found headphones in the 250 ohm range sound best to them. Low impedance earbuds are the worst at 16-23ohm's.

Best idea is to take the G750 headphone shopping with you, and try them out till you find a pair you like that doesn't have bothersome hiss.

Or, move to Bluetooth headphones, or usb dongle based wireless headphones, or usb dongle plug in headphones. But, be careful Windows 8.1 has introduced incompatibilities with some usb headphones, double check to make sure the ones you are interested in work on Windows 8.1

I use the headphone jack Toslink optical output at home to drive Sennheiser RS-220's that have a Toslink optical input, but you could also connect the G750 Toslink ouput to your Receiver, and drive your headphones with your Receiver / headphone amp 🙂
