2014 Antivirus choice

I did a forum search and most were outdated or not informative. I am looking for opinions on what is the best antivirus to protect my newly built computer.

I have read and heard from the head IT guy at my company that AVG is the best and is also free, but i have read mixed reviews (dated 2012 though)

Any opinions on Bitdefender 2014 vs Kaspersky 2014 vs AVG 2014?

Norton has always been No. 1 on my list.

MacAfee is No. Last.

Kaspersky and Bitdefender are at 3 and 2, respectively.

Howdy Folks,
I used to use Microsoft security essentials but not compatible with Win 8 So was going to use windows defender but on the Microsoft support site they recommend using something else. So being I am on Verizon Fios they offer Verizon internet security (VISS) so I got that so far all is good.

Went with Bitdefender x 2 years (Promotion on Newegg is 55$ for Bitdefender + 55$ MIR = free)
Did this because my M6H mobo came with 2013 Kaspersky for 1 year but cannot install on Win 8.1 and neither Kaspersky nor Asus will provide an activation key etc.

Norton 360 works out fine on win8.1 64-bit. It slowed down the unigine heaven score by about 10 points when i forgot to turn it off on my machine but otherwise seems to be quite ok. Besides ofcourse catching viruses...
