So it's normal if I get 1.304 IDLE and 1.312 100% charge? Changing the LLC will change that?

Quite possibly yes, it will change. AUTO LLC might be applying high or extreme.

If you set say 1.3v in the BIOS and see 1.304 in CPUz at idle...the typical thing under load would be to see less voltage with lower LLC so 1.280 for example since the CPU drops voltage in order to protect itself against spikes during transitions between loads...

So I change vcore to 1.280 and LLC to what? Auto?

Those figures were just examples (not real ) to illustrate the point.

Set LLC to MED and then work from there.

I like to set LLC to medium for my builds and low for my own system. I like the vDroop design feature. It is not a bad thing at all.

    Hi,

I don't think I have a big vdroop, the vcore never decrease more than 1.3v

LLC counteracts Vdroop. If you leave LLC on Auto you don't know what level the board is setting and if you have no Vdroop it is probably setting high. If you have more voltage than set in BIOS then maybe extreme etc.

If you set MED LLC you will see vdroop under a suitable load such as a stress test like Realbench....

Ok so I put in Medium

    Now I have 1.296 IDLE

and curious thing 1.288 100% load

the vcore is higher in IDLE now :/
    did I miss something?

what about the percentage of the current capability? I set it to 130%

Was Vdroop implemented to protect the CPU at high loads? I think I read that somewhere but I don't know where.

When OC'ing the 2600k for exemple I'm reluctant to go with LLC medium/regular because then I have to set the Vcore so high. I gotta set it at like 1,67V with lower LLC and I'm not really comfortable with that. On the other hand with higher LLC the cpu obviously get's those kinds of volts under load as it is stable(the Vcore check connector fell of my M5E so cant monitor Vcore with DMM any more).

So my question is basically, is it ok to go with those higher voltages and lower on the LLC instead? M5E with 0022 bios(doesn't have the crazy Vdroop like newer bioses)

LOL maybe...that's what I was trying to say above in the example

If you set manual voltage X in BIOS you will get more or less X at idle.

Vdroop is a protective feature. It wants to avoid voltage spikes at high loads. So, when you load a CPU Vdroop actually drops the voltage available to the CPU figuring that a lower base voltage will mean any spike in voltage as load varies will not exceed a certain threshold.

For example (figures are not real) : You set 1.3v in BIOS. At idle there is no danger of voltage spikes so the CPU gets 1.3v more or less. However when you load the CPU Vdroop does not allow 1.3v because it knows that when the load varies the power delivery system can let through too much voltage. that sometimes the spike can be 0.02v too high for a split second so it removes 0.02v.

This means that if the power delivery spikes 0.02v the maximum voltage is still going to be your 1.3v. If you use LLC to counter Vdroop maybe you get 1.3v at load and a spike of 0.02v means you get 1.32v for a milisecond and this extra voltage is what Vdroop wants to avoid.

LLC works opposite. The higher the LLC the less you allow the CPU to apply Vdroop and higher LLCs not only work against Vdroop they actually add voltage.

Intel put Vdroop there for a reason.
