Are there linux drivers for Asus G56JR (is it Linux supported) because I would like to install Linux instead of Windows 8.1?

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my G56JR and it works fine ! 😉

You should be fine. Ubuntu comes with Nouveau as an Open source alternative to Nvidia's proprietary GPU drivers. Nouveau should be fine. But if you want to do any sort of gaming you will want to install Nvidia's proprietary driver. If you go with Ubutu 14.04 LTS let me tell you right off the bat, do NOT install the drivers off of Nvidia's site. Instead use Ubuntu's driver manager to install Nvidia-331-updates. These are specifically tweaked for Ubuntu and the ones on Nvidia's sites require some extra work to get installed (blacklisting Nouveau etc,).

As for other hardware yo u should be OK. If you have any issues like FN keys not working post back and I would be glad to help. I am a pretty advanced user of Linux and so I kno wmy way around 🙂
