Confused over M.2 SSD/PCI Ex

I am a bit confused about this new ssd. I think it's NGFF for next generation form factor. Are these available now for installation on the desktop? Compatable with the new Maximus VII Hero? My M6E has a port for this as well. The advantage is greater bandwidth so data rate exceeds the 6g SATA port I think, but there are so many of these at different lengths, etc. What fits where? Just a bit confused here. Thanks.

Now that clears up a lot. Thanks for the link. So, what M.2 PCI-Express SSDs are now available to go with a Maximus 7 hero, for example? Any by Samsung? Thanks.

Hello

Match the specs I posted above to the M.2 PCIe devices you are looking at.

Can't find specific specs on this:

Looks right though.

Hello

Looks to be a 2280.

The XP941 comes in the new M.2 form factor (80mm x 22mm),

I guess that little oval at the end of the 80mm PCB fastens somehow to the MB? Is there a pin there on the MB to hold it in place, or does a screw go in there? I can't tell from the few pictures I have seen.

Just looked at page 1-47 in the manual. Doesn't really elaborate on installation of this device.
