Unknown IDE interface in my legacy laptop M6R

Retired
Not applicable
Hi all,

I have been given an old Asus M6R. The laptop has no optical drive so I have tried to put one.

The problem comes when I try to connect the drive to the motherboard. The connector layout is a bit strange because none of the drives I have tried match that connector. It is supposed to be common IDE but I cannot connect any drive. Printed in the back side of the connector I can read ASUS CDROM FPC P/N08-20MN6110B.

I have a good picture where you can see the connector. If you want me to post it just ask for it because it is in my other PC.

Anyone could help me, please?

I did a quick search for 08-20MN6110B and it looks like a lot of the hits are for adapters. This tells me that for some reason it is a proprietary connector and you will probably need one of these adapters or an original CDROM drive replacement to get it working.
