G73JH-1A Freezing/Glitching

I know this has been posted a hundred times but I have still yet to find a solution.

It only starts glitching then eventually freezing after I start a game. Usually within 5 minutes or less it will start, upon opening the game, then freeze and the sound start stuttering without stopping. My GPU temp never goes above 75C on the GPU and never above 65C on the CPU so I have done the following.

1) Installed BIOS v213
2) Installed vBIOS GSOD fix
3) Reinstalled Win7 x64
4) MemTest86+ = 0 errors
5) Brand new 240GB SSD for OS and 500GB HDD for programs, games, etc

Someone said it could be a registry problem so I use CCleaner and cleaned the registry but still no fix.

I'm stuck. 😞 After it freezes and I reboot, it doesn't happen again for awhile but it has gotten really annoying.

Have you tested graphics memory?

Is it possible heatsink needs reseating around graphics memory?

How do I test GPU memory? And I was planning on reseating it today.

Test gpu memory with MemtestCL http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/memtestcl.html
I would test 1024MB of gpu ram and run the test 200 times.

so do 'memtestcl 1024 200' at the command prompt.

If no errors after testng 200 times. Run it overnight, 10000-20000 tests should run all night. If no errors you can look elsewhere for the problem 🙂

And if it is, should I buy another 5870 MXM card or try a small upgrade? I don't think a standard MXM card will fit though. I noticed when I repasted my CPU, the 5870 card was a bit larger

If theres errors, reseat heatsink making sure ram modules have sufficient thermal paste on them, they often get left out of this process but these get very very hot and 90% of the time it's the gddr modules that die first.

If you don't mind butchering your laptop to bodge a standard card inside go for it. LOL
