Have the same problem. Intel i7 4790K CPU, Asus Maximus VII Hero, Asus GTX780ti Matrix, 16GB Ram, SSD HD. Problem started right after fresh Windows 7 install and installed the realtek sound drivers. Nothing else running. Updated BIOS and sound drivers, and still the same issue with "clicking/popping" sound like it connects and disconnects for every sound. This is my third Asus Maximus VII Hero MB, same problem and it's deff something wrong with the sound-drivers. Would really appreciate some feedback on this problem.

Funny I have close to the same specs as you, but with 660 ti and windows 8. No issues for me.

Same here 660 Ti 4790k Windows 8.1 with latest bios. No sound problems at all.

I did have the SSD problem because I was using an older GSkill with early firmware that isn't compatible with Z97. Luckily I had a new Samsung SSD on my other machine so I just swapped SSD's uning system images to restore and intermittent boot problem is solved.

Uninstall The realtek audio driver from "device manager" not from add remove programs, then install the new driver in device manger realtek audio driver is in " sound , video , game controllers" Asus does not have the latest realtek audio driver anywhere , the newest realtek driver can be found at realtek.com or at http://station-drivers.com/ the latest realtek driver was released on 2014/5/21 asus does not have latest driver revision anywhere , the new realtek driver fixes some issues . 4 revisions were realeased in less than a month by realtek. nor does asus have the latest Lan and wireless drivers anywhere "2014/08/08', the latest lan and wireless drivers fix compatibility issues in Window versions, asus seems very slow in updating drivers, where others have already released new driver revisions for hardware compatibility but if I aint broke don't fix it
