Hi,

after an update from 8.0. to 8.1 and installing of all 8.1 software from http://www.asus.com/de/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ROG_G750JX/HelpDesk_Download/ all USB-Ports stopped working.

What to do?

Thanks in advance

Magnetone, Asus Charger+ is out of rev, uninstall it, or install the newer version.

The JW/JX/JH download areas don't have the latest Windows 8.1 drivers. Asus typically has the latest driver / app updates in the newer models in the same product line. In this case, it is the JM/JS/JZ download areas. The JM area should have all of what you need.

G750 support areas - The JM download area has the latest of all the G750, with JS/JZ next:

Here is the latest Notebook Audio - for G750 => Realtek driver package Version V6.0.1.7224

Here are the latest Notebook Bluetooth drivers

Here are the latest Notebook WLAN drivers

Here are the Asus posted VGA drivers, the JX can use the latest from Nvidia, but have this here for reference.

Hi,

i really read the first 15 to 20 pages of this before even buying the g70jx. i know aobut the chi mei/ aou differences in hz setting, have read numerous bios flashing threads, successfully used asus backtracker to put in a new ssd (thanks to your descriptions), even deleted the "unneeded" partitions and pretty much folloed every advice you had.

But i really newer read about using the "other" models drivers ;).

Thanks for your help and i'll give it a try.

Magnetone, A+ for the effort 🙂

It is tough to get what you need when you need it early on, that's why I try to always answer like it is the first time 😉

Have fun Magnetone!

Hi hmscott,

of course i was refferingto the 15 to 20 latest threads. But the good news is that your advice solved my issues!
As you have guessed the asus usb+ thingy was bad. the previous version even made bluetooth dissapear.
I also previously installed the drivers directly from nvidia (v 337.88).

Concerning your links:
when selecting a model there are many different drivers. I installed every latest release of a driver but it feels like a total overkill of drivers.
did i do something wrong in installing every drivers latest version?
or am i supposed to know every device and its manufacturer to select the right driver?

e.g. http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Bluetooth&p=3&ft=27&os=30
tons of bluetooth drivers but which are theones i need?

thanks again very much for your help

Max, yes, you only install the drivers that apply to the hardware you have in your particular G750, which can vary according to Wifi/BT, so I recommend looking at Programs and Features to see what came installed on your G750, and then finding the corresponding version update in the JM/JS/JZ download areas, not to mention the central update locations for Audio, Wifi, BT.

If you try to install drivers for hardware you don't have the installer should be smart enough to figure that out, and tell you it couldn't find any applicable hardware, but if it does install anyway, it should be innocuous - if not superfluous - so go ahead and uninstall it 🙂

let me thank you again for your patiance. as soon as i have more time at hand i will check for all the hardwarecomponents i have and will surely have a couple more questions to ask, if you dont mind.

regards,

max

Hi hmscott,

so far everything runs very smooth and fast thanks to the ssd. I also ran Extreme Tuning Utility for 5 min while monitoring heat and thermal throttling via hwinfo and i seem to have a well cooled system. also my aou screen looks really good at 70htz with no flickering or other distortion.

i am still thinking about removing the shipped samsung hd to an external hd-case, as i read in another post of yours, that this also helps keeping the book cool.

Do you guys only install software to the ssd or can some programs be installed on the other hd to save valuable space?
I also read in a post that for the sake of having more gb you avoid hibernation and pagefiles. does this come with a disadvantage, because i read that this disables fast boot and i am not very familiar with bios settings and their after effects ;).

thanks for your help

Magnetone, the only disadvantage is if you want to use Hibernation, it won't be there 🙂

Windows systems with 8GB or more can run without a pagefile, unless you are debugging drivers, kernel, etc - then create a pagefile of 200-800MB, otherwise you don't need it. I have run across a program or two that assumes a pagefile, but reporting the problem got it fixed in the next releases.

If you are pushing the limits of real memory, be careful. Get more memory, or close an application.

Fastboot isn't needed. My JH spends 1.2 seconds in BIOS, and 5 seconds to boot. And, I don't have fastboot, hiberate, or a pagefile.

Easiest way to turn off fastboot/hibernate is to disable hibernate from the command line:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920730

powercfg.exe /hibernate off <= from an administrator started cmd shell

You don't need to disable fastboot in the BIOS.

ok, now i see the benefits of disabling certain stuff. Thanks again for your help but as an inexperienced user i am not quite confident enough to give such deeper settings a go whilst feeling save at the same time ;).
