These two core CPUs are a blast. Plugged one in to the Z97-WS to see how well it overclocks. This is a watercooled result using 1.45Vcore and 32GB of memory at DDR3-2000.

Pentium G3258 @ 4.8 GHz stable for 2 hours in ROG Realbench with 32GB of memory tested.

Will post settings and a guide later!

This is a blast from the past for me, budget processors that you can OC the bejesus out of and get $1000 performance for under $50

Yeah reminds me of the clarkdale and e8600 era. Cheap and fun to oc.

Clare had a 8400 that would clock like crazy and before that on of the very early Conroe E 6400 that was a blast on air and water. Good days when CPUs did not have to cost nearly $1000 to OC them.

Raja, thanks for supplying this info. I'm particularly interested since I'm looking to pair the 4790K with the Z97-WS. My CPU just arrived a few days ago. Holding off on the MB and GPU until the last minute. Don't want them burning warranty time sitting here on the desk, until I'm ready to assemble the system.

Not sure if you have time to address this in your guide Raja, but i'd love to know how to properly setup an O.C. profile so the system can run at normal CPU speeds for casual daily use, and then run the O.C. profile for certain applications (i.e. - TurboApp for gaming or specific applications). Thanks for your contributions!

Should be quite simple to setup - have you tried yet? The TurboApp gui is quite simple to use.

I haven't OC'c the system yet but have looked through the 5-way optimization and Turbo-App sections of AI Suite 3. I see a way to OC the system automatically and then adjust the CPU frequency per application, but it seems to require that I run overclocked and turn the CPU frequency down on an app by app basis. Maybe I just don't fully understand it yet (high probability).

I'd like to setup an automatic overclock through the 5-way optimization and assign it a profile. I want to run at normal, stock Intel 4790K CPU speeds for everything I do on the system with the exception of a few apps. I'd like to assign that OC profile to those specific apps in Turbo-App. Any suggestions? I have watched JJ's review of this on Tek Syndicate, but didn't see a reference on how to do this.
