Hero UEFI BIOS Update - new vs old "4th gen" Intel i7

Hey all,

With the new 1505 UEFI BIOS update released for the Hero VI, it says that one should run the BIOS Updater for new 4th gen Intel CPU's.

Well, I have an i7-4770K which is 4th generation but is it NEW 4th gen or OLD 4th gen?

In other words, must I update using this tool?

Thanks!

Your CPU is old 4th gen. Update using the tool with your current CPU.

Thanks Raja - so just to confirm - I must still use the Updater tool with the title "BIOS_updater_for_New_4th_Gen_Intel_Core_Processors1.5M"?
Also, no need to rename the BIOS file as in the manual?

One more thing - should I also update the Intel Management Engine Interface Driver BEFORE or AFTER updating the BIOS. Or can I leave my current version (9514-1724)? I notice a newer version has been released recently in the Asus Motherboard download area?

This was basically covered in another thread the other day.

Hi jh30uk, do you mean THIS THREAD?

Probably it's just me but I think ASUS should specially states that before we can use the new 4th gen CPU, we need to actually run the mobo with an old 4th gen CPU first to update the BIOS using the BIOS updater (hence update the Intel ME).

Again, people (like me who's not very savvy) might get confused reading THIS PAGE thinking that going out to buy a M6F and i7-4790K will work.

One of threads I replied in and yes the info is vague but my replies and the other peeps replied and in the end states how to do it properly.

TBH I did see you post in a thread and I would not buy a Z87 today along with a DC, buy a Z97, the Formula is due in July.

IF. I'd waited. 😞

My M6F already on it's way to me.

Well maybe it's just me but I'm still not clear.
With an i7 4770K and Hero Vi board, must I use the Updater tool YES/NO
I am NOT using or planning to buy a NEW 4th Gen CPU in the near future.

jh30uk - with all respect, I cannot find where this was covered the other day.

My other questions in post #3 are also not covered.

Please help guys! Want to do it right FIRST time.

Thanks

NGregH, No you do not need to mess about to use a 4770k in the Z87, just pop it in and boot up and set up and when you are ready install latest Bios when you feel like it.

OK, thanks jh30uk, I will install 1505 using the standard method described in the user manual.
Cheers!
