FX 9590, 8-pin & 4-pin EPS 12V

Hello All,

This is my first ever PC build. I'm very inexperienced with this, and need some guidance.

Here's my specs just in case you need them:
CHVF-Z
FX 9590 @ 4.7GHz
16GB (2x 8GB) Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866MHz (CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R)
Corsair CXM 750W
Asus GTX 770 DCu II OC 2GB
Windows 8.1 64-bit

I built this computer for video editing in mind. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 but the system sometimes freezes upon exporting/rendering a video which is about 6 minutes long, and 1.4GB in size once exported/rendered.

The system also freezes in Lightroom 3.6 64-bit when editing photos, and when playing Garry's mod, which I wouldn't have thought were that intensive on the CPU. Far Cry 3 seems to be fine.

The problem I face is this: I have done a bit of searching on here to find that the 9590 needs the 4-pin EPS 12V plugged in, as well as the 8-pin. I don't seem to have a 4-pin EPS plug spare/one that came with the Corsair PSU, neither can I find one on Amazon/eBay.
The CX750M has a 8 pin output to a 4+4 EPS. But this is the part I'm having trouble to find.

Could someone possibly point me in the right direction with this? Do I get a molex to 4-pin adapter like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005L0XXMG

I was looking at this: http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/type-3-sleeved-black-eps-12v-cpu-cable but I'm not sure if it's a replacement part for the 4+4 EPS that's already there or if it's a 8-pin to 4+4.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The molex to 4-pin works just fine; it's a good and inexpensive solution. I used one for a while until I changed PSUs.

That is correct you do need both.

You can pick up an adaptor quite easily in the UK.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Thanks for the replies. I've ordered a molex to 4 pin off of Amazon. Hopefully this will do the trick.

So is there no 8-pin female to 4+4 female you can get from anywhere? It seems odd to have the option on the PSU and then no cable to come with it or that's available to buy separately.

My Corsair came with a number of spare 8pin cables and to populate the 4 pin socket, I split the 8pin (Slides apart) and tied the other half back.

I thought too, I would have to buy one, till I looked more carefully.

I've only got a CX series PSU, so it comes with the bare minimums.

Should my PC be able to boot with just the 8 pin ATX connector in? And also the RAM I've got is advertised as 1866MHz but only runs at 1333MHz with default settings. I've increased it to 1600MHz, but when I set it to 1866MHz, the system isn't able to start. Is this because there's insufficient power i.e. no power from 4-pin ATX?

Edit: I've ordered another part now, which looks like the part I was originally looking for (image attached). The only thing is, it says "TXM/WX/AXI only". What's limiting it from use with a CX PSU?

You should be OK with that cable. Your system will boot but stability is the reason for this connection.
I am a little concerned as to whether the PSU will be good enough especially as you have a high end GPU and plan on expanding, as your on the limit.

Okay, thanks for the info.

So, would you recommend using the molex to 4 pin instead of this 8 pin to 4+4? I've ordered both of these parts just to see what's best. The 8-pin to 4+4 is a direct connection from PSU to mobo, whereas I would need a molex output from the PSU then use the adaptor to go from molex to 4 pin. I'm always wary about using adapters with anything to do with power.
I'm not really looking to upgrade in the near future. I wanted this to last me a few years at least but when I do upgrade, the PSU will be at the top of my list of parts to upgrade.

I would recommend the 8pin to 4+4 which is how I have it connected.

Nice rig you have there btw. Just keep an eye on your temps.

Corsair sells, directly from its website, additional/alternate cables for Corsair PSUs; if you want to try different things, start there.
