I am looking to get a 2 x 8gb ram kit for my Hero VII I purchased today. I am trying to figure out which one would better for my system as there is a few different speeds/timings out there.

1600 cas 9 9-9-9-24 1.5v
1866 cas 9 9-10-9-27 1.5v
2133 cas 9 9-11-11-31 1.65v
1600 cas 7 7-8-8-24 1.5v

just put a few out there that I have seen. When it comes to ram i have really no clue on what to get or what would be the best of the bunch.

Hi Trogdor469 and welcome to ROG.

These are from the QVI and tested to suit your MB.

CORSAIR CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9(XMP) 16GB ( 2x 8GB ) DS @1866-9-10-9-27 1.5
CORSAIR CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 (Ver5.29)(XMP) 16GB ( 2x 8GB ) DS @1866 9-9-9-27 1.5
CORSAIR CMD16GX3M4A1866C9 (Ver4.13)(XMP) 16GB ( 4x 4GB ) DS @1866 9-10-9-27 1.5
CORSAIR CMD16GX3M4A1866C9 (Ver8.16)(XMP) 16GB ( 4x 4GB ) DS @1866 9-10-9-27 1.5

I personally like the Dominator CMD Modules for looks and reliability, they are specially selected by Corsair techos.

ALSO, RMA is especially good, should the need arise, You can elect to receive replacement prior to posting any failed DIMMs, so your not left waiting for replacement.

Hey Trogdoor469 🙂

There is a formula that can help you in deciding if one kit is faster than the other when the timings are taken into account.

(CAS/frequency) x 2000 gives you a number in nanoseconds for comparing speeds.

Say you see a 1600 kit at 7-8-7-20 and a 1866 kit at 9-10-9-28 which is faster?
Well 7/1600 x 2000 = 8.75 nanoseconds; 9/1866 x 2000 = 9.646 so the 1600 kit actually looks quicker.

If these numbers are close or the same choose the higher frequency it will be more efficient.

1866 with 1.5V would be my pick.

1866 MHz is my choice as well. it is the most bang for your buck speed at the moment. the improvements in fps alone when going from 1600 MHz ram to 1866mhz ram is worth the few dollars more. higher speeds such as 2133 MHz see diminishing returns and are quite a bit more expensive.
Corsair ram is nice quality, it's what I use. Been a very solid performing set of DDR3 even when I abuse the hell out of it.

Great stuff guys. I was always looking for a formula for the memory. Picking up the 1866 CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 from newegg. That was the last thing on the shopping list. I always stick with corsair ram and ASUS motherboards on my builds. I can finally retire my P6X58D .
