New PC

Hey everyone,

I posted a few months back about upgrading my pc, however, once I researched it a bit more, I found out the new motherboards and Processors were just around the corner, so I decided to wait. Here's my new build and any feedback is greatly appreciated:

OS: Windows 8
Case: Corsair Graphite Series 760T White Steel
Power Supply: Corsair AX1200
Monitor: 1x PG278Q , 2x HDMI Monitors (Total of 3)
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell 4.0GHz Quad Core
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Formula 1150 Z97
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
Video Card: GeForce GTX 780 Ti (maybe a 2nd, still undecided)

SSD: 1TB Samsung 850 Pro
HHD1: 4TB
HHD2: 2TB

If I missed anything please let me know, as it is late here in the US 🙂

Couple questions:
1) For Fans, What fans would you recommend? I would want to replace the rear fan in the case, unless it's a good, quiet fan.
2) For lighting around the glass side panel of the case, What's the optimal length needed?

Thanks for the help in advance,

~Chris

for upgrading bios on the formula 6. -> http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?48855-Must-Do-s-for-making-4790K-work-with-Maximus-VI-Mothe...

lighting, you want RGB or just 1 color?
you can add the lighting on another time so you would get the chance to mesure out and desside your self how mutch you need and so on.

fans. well you can use the corsair fans where you can change out the ring on? and mabye the silent series?
and IF you want to have the same fans on the rad you can change out those too ( just a tought ).

red rings -> http://cdn.overclock.net/6/62/500x1000px-LL-62e1ede2_IMG_0013.jpeg
blue rings -> http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/articles/2012/07/05045545456l.png

just an example on how the rings looks on the fans.

corsair fans:
single high performance -> http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16042/fan-994/Corsair_Air_Series_SP120_High_Performance_Edition_Hi...
dual high performance -> http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16043/fan-995/Corsair_Air_Series_SP120_High_Performance_Edition_Hi...
single quiet edition -> http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16041/fan-992/Corsair_Air_Series_AF120_Quiet_Edition_High_Airflow_...
dual quiet edition -> http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16039/fan-991/Corsair_Air_Series_AF120_Performance_Edition_High_Ai...

for radiator i recommend high static pressure fans: Static Pressure: 2.0 mm/H20 ( the 2.0 is a minimum amount i recommend, and higher is bether ).
and the high performance fans have 3.1 witch is good.
and if you have the founds for it i would think of a fan controller for the case fans so you can controll it manualy for you likings, but the fans on the cooler have to be mounted to the cooler controller it self.

and do NOT instal AI-suite if you are going to use the corsair link, or enny other monitoring programs.
they will end up crashing on each other and give you miss readings.

That was actually another question of mine, if the fans on the radiator were able to be changed out with better ones. So indeed, I will be upgrading those as well to the ones you suggested, the high static fans and be getting a fan controller for the rest of the case fans.

I was reading that the AI-Suite crashes with the Corsair Link, so I won't install that 🙂

Hey Kkn,

Question for you,

For the radiator fans, Thinking about the fans you recommended,

How much noise difference is it between the Static Pressure 120 Quiet Edition vs the High Performance? Does it make a noticeable difference?

Fans I'm wondering about:
Quiet Edition: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181025
High Performance: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181040

you can see the noice diffrentce in sthe specs of the fans.
personlay i dont use those fans, i mainly suggested them since you are going to use a corsair cooler.
and you listed 2 diffrent connections on those fans, PWM is 4 pin and the other is 3 pin fans. ( connection to motherboard/fan controller ).
this is the fans im using -> http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16918/fan-1048/Noiseblocker_NB-eLoop_B12-3_120mmx25mm_Ultra_Silent...
and my fans are temp controlled by a software on the fan controller i use, witch have a inline temp connected to it.
that way i can controll temp on the water in my loop.

the fans will go up in speed when your water get hot, and i guess the controller built in will controll the fan speed accordingly to temp and so on.

If you want to run the fan's off of the H100i then I would get 4pin PWM fans as I remember reading that some H100i's had an issue with 3pin fans, this may have been sorted with a firmware update though.. I run Cougar Vortex 4pin PWM fans http://www.cougar-world.com/products/fans/vortex_pwm.html controlled by Corsair Link on mine and have never had any problems.
You could also choose some 3pin fans but run them off of your fan controller or motherboard fan headers.

Thanks for the responses 🙂 I should have mentioned that I can see from the fan spped itself, and I'm sort of glad I accidently posted two different connection types, as I was going to get the non-PWN one. I'll stick with the PWN connectors to make sure it works with that. I'll post my build in the other forum area once the Formula VII comes in and I start building. 🙂

I may have one or two other quesstions, but this has been helpful, thanks again!
