Crazy VRM temps on the ASUS-STRIX-GTX780-OC-6GD5-(90YV04H4-M0NA00)

According to reviews (for FLiR test @ guru3d.com, please see link provided at the end of this message) and users, the STRIX 780 VRM s get so hot that they think it may become a concern for both performance and component life expectancy.

Does ASUS provide _any_ explanations for the supposedly excessively hot VRM s and/or provide/suggest any remedies customers can invoke to address the issue, i.e. applying after market cooling solutions WITHOUT voiding warranty etc?

Are the VRM's intended to be running at those crazy temps without deteriorating more rapidly?

Would love to hear more or get a reply about this. Was set on getting the asus model 6GB 780 but with VRAM temps like these i may have to look elsewhere, maybe MSI. The same review found theirs much cooler overall.

Hi!

It's not VRAM (Video RAM) that gets hot, it's the so-called Voltage Regulator Modules, or VRM's for short! They can be found further back on the PCB, outside the area of the GPU and VRAM chips.

Yeah were on the same page thanks for the reply, well that only leaves the EVGA model. i haven't seen any reviews on it and I've read that the ACX cooler isn't all that great either. I want to eventually get two of these cards for sli at 4K. What to do.

I'll be watercooling my two GTX780STRIX cards. Finally managed to verify that th 780 STRIX uses the exact same PCB layout as the ASUS780TiDC2OC does and happily, EKWB has made a few blocks for that custom PCB design!

Still, why would ASUS allow for these mad VRM temps ... and thats also at out-of-the-box GPU settings (factory OC, tiny wee bit of OC tho).
