Configuring Offset Mode for Vcore

Hi Forum

Posting a new thread on this as I beleive it is a whole other topic in itself starting from here:
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?49825-4930K-First-Time-Overclocker-4.7Ghz-Am-I-doing-this-r...

I have been able to obtain a stable clock of 4.7GHz at 1.385V my 4930k on a RIVBE with 16Gb of Corsair Dominator Plaitinum 2400MHz with temps in the 70c-80c range under full load.

Now that I have this value I want to change from manual to offset mode but I am having great difficulty downgrading the VCore as the multiplier drops while idling.

I have had success at 4.5 GHz with an offset of +0.02V and setting the turbo boost short duration to 230 and long duration to 200 with the Current limmited to 200. These settings were obtained from another post and im not sure how they would translate to 4.7GHz.

Anyone had experience with these turbo boost settings and offset mode?

Are you saying that you're not seeing the vcore voltage drop as the CPU returns to idle as you expect it to? What is your target idle voltage, and what are you seeing instead? The key (as I have found it) to good idle voltage and stable OC under load is the combination of offset and "Additional Turbo Voltage" found under the CPU Performance menu. For 4.7, you can probably run offset very close to zero (possibly even -0.05) and then make up the load voltage with the Turbo Voltage. Start with something like 4.3 GHz and +0.10V turbo and see where that gets your load voltage, then adjust from there.

My 4960 idles at 0.800V and under load stays at 1.216V at a comfortable 4.5 GHz. I can't reboot to check at the moment but I think my offset is +0.05 and Turbo is +0.60. Somewhere in that ballpark anyway.

Hi jeepcoma

Thanks for your response I managed to get it idling at 0.960V and turbo's to 1.344V at 4.6GHz while maintaining stability, I think my final offset was +0.12V which is just increasing the max voltage the stock turbo boost was reaching couldn't get stability at 4.7GHz however my max temps for 4.6GHz are around 65c-75c which will probably go up by about 10c when its summer so it should still be under the threshold. Thanks for your reply 🙂
