I think you need 4 cores, you can test it your self. Just disable some cores

Just trying to gripe with some humor. Z87 wasn't listed at all as an acceptable chip set in the original post.

twisted, my Pentium doesn't seem to be a good clocker, 4.6 to 4.8 and it stops
meankeys, my memory secret is Raja's ROG memory presets and a good set of Corsair Platinum 2666 cl10 that you can't find anymore, Arne has searched the Globe, I am keeping my kit for sure. other than that I am the worst with memory timings, Paw, Dart, Lumni, ask them about timings, I know squat

Perhaps you don't need more then 2 cores on a 4790K, the bigger cache will make it a bit faster per clock. This was w/o even running diagnostics mode.

I must have gotten a pretty good one. Key for me to get it stable is to set VCCIN to Vcore +0.4V. So at 1,4Vcore VCCIN=1,8V. With those settings I could get the Vcore much lower compared to using auto for VCCIN. On Devil Canyon cpu's however they claim that VCCIN should be kept low, don't have a DC cpu yet though so I haven't tested it myself.

Aside from my clock speed the normally RB tweaks helpped in getting a few more points that bumped me over the 170000 mark. Run # 2 seem to produce a better score than run # 1.

    My first run was @ 5200 MHz - 167630 - no tweaks
    Second run @ 5300 MHz - 168040 - no tweaks
    Third run @ 5400 MHz - 170170 - tweaks
    Fourth run @ 5452 MHz - 171823 - tweaks - Second run score

HT did make a difference to me in adding to the points
