Ok this might be a silly question but how can I set a movie to play hdmi out with the lid closed?

I cannot for the life of me figure it out.....

Also is there any way to control playback with lid closed using a remote?

i ruined a laptop a few years ago by closing the lid and putting it into my bag but it didnt completely shut down (thanks microsoft).
screen must have got really hot.
this asus sometimes does the same when i leave the download manager running at night on auto shutdown.
i always either leave the lid up or at least just a few centimeters open just in case.

for remote control i just use the wireless mouse 🙂

strange that a laptop's screen could overheat that bad while standing open for a couple of hours on battery... 🙂

@mars803: no, i closed the old laptop to shut it down but it didnt shut down completely. when i got it out of the bag and opened it a few hours later it was very hot and the fans were running full. the screen was strange rainbow colours and needed replacing.
op was asking about using the laptop with the lid closed which, personally, i would not do.

I wouldn't either... Even though the screen shuts off when you close it, it doesn't help in heat dissipation.
