Go to this post and find 285.38 - http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...tion-Reference

280.26 is the latest "official" driver, but 285.38 is a beta driver that was released for bf3 and everyone is using it.

I don't know what's causing your stuttering but it's probably software related. There are lots of things that can cause stuttering in games.

Did you uninstall any of the Asus bloatware yet? Definitely uninstall that Asus online storage thing, and Asus update is pretty useless, too.
Also, your antivirus may be hogging resources.
Read the User's Manual for more info.

and i didn't crash at 75...just not yet. i'm sure it was just oblivion. at that temp the game would start acting like it was struggling with heat. which is weird because i know the g74sx has a very good cooling system.
i have the very latest driver install available, its 280.26
its been acting very weird lately, so i just hope its not a defect.
    any suggestions?
Hey buddy, I'm playing Oblivion too. First of all, I've mods: OOO, Better Cities(full), UL(complete), All Natural, and a few other little mods. Also, I've OBGE shaders(Godrays, Volumetric SSAO, Liquid Water) I've yet to add texture packs. I'm running Oblivion at 1280x720 with graphic settings maxed out except AA and vsycn off. Anyways, I'm getting a steady avg. gpu temp. of 50c. I can use higher resolution without any significant fps drop but 1280x720 is fine for now. I've always believed that is unwise to put more stress when you don't have to.

As for old Nvidia drivers, what I do is use Nvidia uninstaller; reboot in safe mode and eliminate any leftover Nvidia drivers using Driver Sweeper. Reboot again, and install the new Nvidia drivers. I currently have driver 280.26.

Oh, btw, Oblivion is the worst optimized game in all of The Elder Scrolls series so if you get a little stuttering don't worry, is not your gpu.

yeah its just very disappointing because i had a great experience with my PS3 version, so i decided to get a PC copy. the shuttering is very annoying. hopefully Skyrim will be fully optimized for PC (it better be i preordered limited edition :P)
and i just got the new beta and its seems to be working a bit better. hopefully no more crashing
and i will get rid of the ASUS crap as well and i should be good from now on
thank you both you have been very helpful

Have you tried the crash prevention and stutter remover plugin for Oblivion? These plugins don't really eliminate the crashing/stuttering but it does a great job in minimizing the issues.

i have the driver you suggested and i seem to have no more stutter (at least not in my other games. oblivion still kinda sucks)
also my core temp has dropped to about 52 degrees Celsius instead of 75 under load. MUCH better performance
all is good now, again thanks

    Awesome!

One more thing, defragment your drives.
