Hello there!
This is my first post on ROG's forums and i have seen everything is awesome!
The case is:
I want to build my own gaming computer, and i'm making the configuration for it. I am new in all this of pc building but i have seen some videos which have informed me a bit about this epic world. It know the basic. For ex: SATA ports, motherboard plugs... But i have a problem. I have found some RAM sticks that i will afford: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-2400mhz-c10-memory-kit-cmy1...
But it says it is compatible with 3rd+4th generation intel processors. I have alredy chosen: Intel I7 4820k processor: http://ark.intel.com/products/77781/Intel-Core-i7-4820K-Processor-10M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz
But i have investigated its generation and it doesn't appear in the 3rd neither in the 4th ones!
Please, what generation does it belongs this proccessors??

Thanks very much 😄

Hi Danuts 🙂

3rd and 4th gen refers to the mainstream desktop processors. 4820K is an IB-E chip made for LGA2011 socket...X79. That platform is quad channel RAM and while it will run the RAM you are looking at, that kit is dual channel only. X79 you don't want to combine RAM kits even of "same" make and model.

Third gen processor like 3770K

Fourth gen processor like 4770K or 4790K want Z87/Z97 chipset. 4790K with Z97 board like maximus Vii formula would be good gaming machine.

X79 board like Rampage IV Black edition and 4820K would be good gamer and good video editor etc...

Though really there is not much between those two...
