overclocking failed

bios 0603-shipped with this bios. I have no OS installed yet. Tested memory with memtest overnight, 2 passes, no errors. XMP enabled for memory to run at 2400.

Used CPU level up to overclock. Seemed to be stable at 4.0 preset in the bios, so went to 4.2 yesterday. Bios froze at 4.2, so decreased to 4.0. Bios froze again at 4.0 today and changed CPU level up back to Auto. The error on reboot stated simply that overclocking failed, press F1 to reconfigure the system on both occasions.

Any manual settings that I need to apply? I only have XMP enabled for the memory, then CPU level up is now back to auto. Thanks.

Hello

I'm not sure how you are going to test any applied overclock settings without an operating system installed. Really need to move from 0603 to either 0002 or 005 UEFI.

You will consistently see that error message when you're overclocking your processor or your RAM. Like it says, it just means that whatever setting you changed wasn't stable and thus it failed. With no OS installed, you cannot test your overclock thoroughly.

Testing your hardware before installing it into the case is very good practice and what a lot of new system builders should adopt. So props to you for taking that first step. But now you need an OS. 😛

Thanks. The machine has been running now for about 4 hours with no freezes. No overclocking except for the memory's XMP profile. Where do I get bios 0002 or 005? I assume beta bios versions? I will try to get an OS installed this week sometime. I like to iron out the bugs before OS installation though. Appreciate the help as always.

Found 0005 in another thread. Used extractNow to unpack the file. I have a rom file and a cap file. Do I simply rename the cap file to R5E.cap for bios flashback method?

Hello

Place the CAP file on a FAT32 formatted USB stick and use EZ Flash in the UEFI in the Tools section.

Flashed 0005. XMP worked initally for the memory and let the machine sit there for a while. Bios reported memory at 2400 correctly. Noticed my Samsung SSD reported twice on the bios report on boot up.

Then used CPU level up to go to 4.0. It changed the memory back to 2133. Tried to reapply XMP profile, but it did not work. Memory still at 2133.

Now I just have auto for the memory and for CPU level up. Just burning in the machine some. Suggestions now? Thanks.
