Hello JR, I have ordered the Intel 6230 Wi-Fi card and am in the processing of downloading all of the drivers needed to do a new install onto a SSD for my wife's Christmas present (G74X-DH71). I downloaded the Intel driver for the 6230 that you recently posted. If I install the Intel 14.2.0.10 driver for the WLAN, do I need to install the Atheros LAN adapter driver as well as the Realtek or is there a choice that needs to be made between the 2? Are both needed? I apologize if this is something that I shouldn't be asking. I assume that both are needed. Thank you, Roger

No!!! Probably use the Realtek. Check in device manager when in doubt about what you have installed.
You also need to install the Intel BlueTooth for the 6230.Read the User's Manual for more info.

Oh, I understand...the laptop will come with either a Realtek of Atheros LAN. Serious brain-fart on my part. The laptop is under the Xmas tree right now and I didn't open the box before wrapping it. I am just getting prepared for the SSD that I am going to put in it for the OS. My wife has no idea as to what is under the tree.
Thank you,
Roger

Yes, also if you decide to not do a clean install, right away, you have to uninstall the drivers for your present wifi/bt adapter before you remove the card. If you don't you'll be unable to uninstall the driver afterwards, for some reason. Believe me . . . lol

I've got a suggestion for the "How-to" section.
If you have the issue where the display driver keeps crashing while doing stuff in Windows that has to do with Flash most of the time (for example watching YouTube video's), you should download a tool called PowerMizer switch. Run it and turn off PowerMizer, and the problem will be solved.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gami...ideo-card.html
The issue is created by a function in your graphics card called PowerMizer: it lowers the voltage and clocks when not playing games to maximize battery life. But when doing stuff in Windows, your card might get insufficient voltage or clocks to handle what you're doing, which will make your graphics drivers crash and recover. It's a fairly known issue, and this is an easy solution.

No problem. I tried to fix it myself several times, but it never worked and I sent my G74SX to RMA. All they did was reinstall Windows, which made me so pissed that I looked into the problem again myself and finally found the good solution to it. It's actually nVidia's fault and not Asus's, but it's pretty sad that Asus Support doesn't recognize the issue. :/
