Hi , I've just received my new Asus G56 laptop , but I noticed that when i boot up , or when I launch Windows media player
the DVD drive makes a weird 1 second noise like its trying to read something even though there is no DVD inside.

is there any solution for that ?

This happens with any computer mostly with a disc drive.

When booting up any laptop that uses a CD drive, and the CD drive is in boot priority, it'll do a scan to check if a disc is actually inside to read.

For example, if I wanted to install an operating system on my computer, it would be hard if the CD drive wouldn't check if I put something in there.

The CD drive also checks for any discs when you turn on Windows Media Player because it's scanning for any media you may have inserted.

If you open and close the CD drive, it would scan then, too. Again, checking for any available disc media.

If you actually open the CD drive and look inside, you will see a small little platform with a laser in the middle. The sound you are hearing is the motor to that platform moving it ever slightly.

Hope this brings insight to your query.

P.S. YOU DO NOT TURN THIS OFF. IT IS INTENDED.
