Slow Windows 10 boot on Samsung EVO 960 SSD

    Hi all,

firstly thanks for the great advice as it has helped me to get my new system running. Unfortunately I am experiencing slow Windows 10 boot times still.
Up around the 40 to 60 seconds to load Windows.

    My configuration is,

    Asus ROG Strix X99
    Intel Broadwell-E Core i7 6800K
    G.SKILL Trident Z RGB F4-3200C16D-16GTZR, 32GB
ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX1070 8gb
    Samsung EVO 960 m.2 SSD
    Seagate BarraCuda, 2TB 3.5 inch 7200RPM
    Cooler Master Seidon 240P Watercooling
    Corsair Carbide 270R Mid-Tower ATX
    Cooler Master V-series 650S GOLD 650W
    Windows 10 Pro 64bit
    Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD PCI-e

I have disabled CSM in Bios and set secure boot to Windows UEFI. I have also updated the Bios to the latest 1701 version which then removed the M.2/U.2 configuration setting??

I will attempt to load some screen shots of the Bios settings tonight but firstly wanted to see if anyone out there had installed Windows 10 Pro onto a Samsung EVO 960 SSD on the ROG Strix X99 motherboard and achieved fast boot times?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

Slow Windows 10 boot on Samsung EVO 960 SSD

    Hi Chino,

thanks for the advice. I reset bios to defaults but no change.
Next I decided to remove all other devices except the M2 SSD and the graphics card.
Bam! boot time down to around 5 seconds.
Slowly added back in each extra device, two storage drives, all still good no change to fast boot time.
Then added back in the PCI Hauppauge TV tuner on the PCIEX16_2 slot. back to slow boot times.

Moved the TV Tuner to PCIEX8_3 slot and back to fast boot times but the TV Tuner was not detected.
Found a setting notice in the user guide that advises if a card in that slot is not detected change the setting in BIOS from auto to X8. Restarted and still getting windows boot time of around 5 seconds plus now the TV Tuner card is detected and usable in Windows.

So now from cold start including post a total boot time of about 10 seconds onto the Windows desktop.

Very happy now plus using Samsung Magician I am getting 3268 read and 1735 write.

    Hey Guys

I installed windows perfectly on a Samsung 960 Pro, but my issue now is that I am missing 2 SSD's.

These SSD's had my games on it but after in put everything back together they are no longer in list disk (cmd) / bios / disk management or explorer.

I have tried switching around the cables to different SATA ports to no avail.

Running in a Maximus Extreme Assembly.

    Any ideas/help?

PS - it has picked up my 2TB HDD and one 240GB SSD - but the other SSD's (a Sandisk 240 and a Samsung 850 Pro) I cannot find anywhere
    Thx in advance

Figured it out - some reason the Intel ports didn't work. Maybe M2 blocks em. Have them in the ASMEDIA and now they are alive!

    2-way SLI 16X-16X with the Samsung 960 Pro in the M.2 slot + 2 Asus Strix 1080ti

    Hello.

I am trying to make Windows 10 Pro 64 bit to boot from the M.2 and the Samsung 960 Pro nVme through a Rampage V Ed.10 motherboard.
The behavior is extremely strange and unpredictable not to mention how much frustrating since I am also trying to make Windows up to date...

The first thing I did was to update to the latest bios version and the latest windows drivers.

How can someone make for certain the M.2 the booting device ?

Also, the option under BIOS > Advanced Menu > Onboard Devices Configuration > PCI Express X 8_4 slot > --> change to M.2
    does not exist anymore...

    kind regards
    Menelaos

Did you install Windows in UEFI? If so, make sure that the Windows Boot Manager entry is on top of the boot device list.
