Sold off my G750JM with minimal loss about ~$25 and picked up G751JT at Amazon with 5% cash back and no tax! The new 900 series is just too good to pass up. This is also a decent step up from the G750JM. I'm pretty excited and I hope I don't experience any issues that others have posted.

Is it true that Optimus is gone?
Can the steam key be reprogrammed?
Can the ROG Key be reprogrammed?

I sold my JM too, there was too many issues with this one. Im waiting for the JY, he should arrive next monday. I so damn excited but let's be clear: if i get any issue with this one i think i will kill myself.
This time i will not do stupid things like deleting asus's windows like i did with the JM, this time Asus backtracker will be my friend (Ty hmscott).

Had an issue with mine, awaiting a new G751JT and hoping it is defect free.

To answer OP questions:
1) I haven't use an ASUS ROG before. I don't see anything on here that is Optimus, unless it is completely under the hood.
2) Steam button cannot be reprogrammed, afaik. You can reprogram the m1, m2, and m3 keys through the ROG software, that's it.
3) ROG button cannot be reprogrammed, afaik.
