Well it didn't install correctly this time either. It still plays on the subwoofer only.

Even worse, when I did a system restore to when I had split the sound devices, neither actually play any sound now. I'm going to try uninstalling the drivers again to redo what I did to split them.

While I do that, any other ideas?

Alright, after another attempt, I have found out that to get windows drivers to detect both speakers - main set and subwoofer - I need to uninstall the devices and delete the driver data that Realtek installed. So at least now I know how to get back to a semi functional state.

Now are there any ideas about what the problem is that is causing this, and how to get my speakers + subwoofer to work together again?

Id like to cosign this issue. I am having the same problem. I thought the sound was "off" out of the box. So I tried a few things and spoke to tech support. Nothing they recommended worked. Instead of sound come from rear, I only have audio from subwoofer. The subwoofer should be primarily bass. Instead I have no bass, and just audio from the sub.

Here's where it gets interesting. Amazon had lost my initial package and sent me a replacement. But just yesterday the lost laptop showed up. Before sending it back I tested the audio. In addition to having a broken F9 key and six distinct burnt pixels, the sounds had the exact same issue. interesting. ASUS FIX PLEASE!!

I was hoping if I went to sleep I could wake up the next morning and have more replies about things to try..

Is there anything else I can do about this?

I'm currently sitting around with a system that can use either the main speakers or subwoofer, but not both in tangent. I want to fix this. I have labeled both and both produce sound fine, I just can't seem to get them to wotk together.

I am unsure if it is related, but under "Other Devices" in Device Manager, I have something called "Unknown Device" which has the following status: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device."

I do not know if this is related to the speaker issue or completely separate.

Thank you, but the tool didn't work. All it did was scan for hardware changes and then tell me everything was fixed. (Unknown Device is still listed, with no changes)

I'm going to try repairing the Intel Chipset Drivers, as well as the ATKPackage, if neither work, I'll try downloading a different realtek driver.

Installing the other realtek driver does the same thing as the Asus-provided one, it plays the sound through the subwoofer only...
