So my G751 has just shown its true colours. It keeps on dying randomly even when plugged in, artifacting and crashes in games, temps don't seem to change and fans don't speed up. Faulty temp sensor, sending back for refund.

And you know what? I'm pleased. This is not a £2000/$3500 laptop. It's slow to boot up, there's no Optimus (which I think should be at least an option), the touchpad is laggy, the keys are SO hard to see, the stupid keyboard layout, the ridiculous looks.

It's not worth it just to get a 980m.

Huwbutts, do you think if your G751 had been stable and ripped through all your games at high FPS without crashing due to a hardware problem, and everything worked - you would have been happy and kept it?

Did you update the BIOS from the shipping version of 202 to 205? There were several temperature sensor fixes that dropped temps and improved the fan curves.

Have you lived on an Optimus laptop? If you haven't I wouldn't be so quick to seek it out.

None of the design changes to add color would keep me away from the awesome performance.

Try getting another G751, it's an awesome laptop. 🙂

I updated bios as soon as I got it, worked great for a week and a half. I've only used Optimus with Windows 7 where it's worked perfectly - having just now experienced it on Win 8, you're right, I'm not a fan.

If there weren't any hardware problems, I probably would have kept it begrudgingly, having to look at such an ugly laptop that left a serious dent in my bank account isn't great. I guess it's like having a child...that's ginger. xD (sorry if you're ginger, some of my best friends are ginger).

Huwbutts, if you can live with Optimus, love the G750 Stealth Black case, and long for the 980m 8GB VRAM version, you are in luck 🙂

Thanks, now I finally understand why I'm still seeing G750 notebooks without price cut and why they're still renewing the stock. I suppose they found a container full of G750's motherboards. 😄

I had a G750, but the flickering screen was awful - as I do a lot of photo and video editing, staring at the screen for even a couple of minutes would be painful.

Huwbutts, the new G750JY "might" have an IPS screen, like the G751 - it is listed as having Wide View 140' viewing angle, I think IPS is the only screen that can do that.

Did you check the forums for a cure for the flickering? If you had a G750JW/JX/JH you could have made a custom refresh for the Chi Mei screen from 60hz to 100hz, which made it smooth. The AUO screen would work at 70hz, also smooth.

Did you like the G751JY IPS screen?

I tried everything to get the G750 screen working to no avail. Maybe it helped, but it certainly didn't remove the issue - everyone keeps saying it's a hardware design flaw?

I LOOOOVE the screen on the G751. It's gorgeous - I didn't even have to calibrate it for editing :'D

I'd certainly pay £2000 right now if the G750JY had no hissy headphone amp like the original versions along with an IPS screen 🙂
