Thamann2000 - do you have any suggestions for a 17" (2 HDD/SSD capable), sleek laptop with a 970M around $1499 that I should look at? (I'd be putting in my own SSD.)

Maybe you missed the part where I said I'm supporting this because I haven't heard another G751. I actually do think mine sounds just fine - it sounds very good for a laptop - the sound is just mostly coming from the bass speaker. Read what I said again and tell me what you expect to happen, please. You think YOUR laptop sounds bad.

Is the result you expect a bass-only bass speaker with the two extremely squeaky treble speakers behind the screen? So you can have your audio sound like it's coming from the center? I already said the bass eye sounds like a >>> FULL RANGE SPEAKER <<< to me, not a bass speaker. It couldn't possibly be a particularly good bass speaker with the size it has.

You have heard what the treble speakers sound like on their own. If you add the mediocre bass response of the bass eye to it with centered audio, would this be a good result for you? At least as it is now (no distortion at 100% volume) it sounds full-bodied. In fact, the only "distortion" of any kind that I can hear is some smaller elements around the chassis resonating to the speaker when it's at full pelt.

What exactly about my statements did you find illogical considering you've never heard what our laptops sound like and we've never heard what yours sounds like?

Please don't start calling people griefers - you seem to be completely disregarding the possibility that later versions of this model could have been modified - and maybe this is the best ASUS can do - I don't really know. I'm just as little a fan of no communication with customers as anyone else. But maybe even 100 laptop returns won't change anything, maybe they want to but can't - I just ... don't know! For me, the problem is not really so much the sound - rather that there is no communication. Thanks to Marshall for at least trying to help the community out.

What's your problem? Is it normal for you label anyone with an opposing opinion to you as a "griefer"? Can you please stop doing that here?

    For something more constructive:

My dad has a K95 laptop and as far as I understand the sound setup in the G751 is extremely similar to the G750.
Well, watch this video with headphones. Obviously he uses a not-so-good recording mic but I KNOW what my dad's K-series sounds like and I'm fairly certain this K-series has the same speakers (no bass, just 2 built-in over the keyboard) but you can very clearly hear that the G750 sounds fuller. Lower your volume, the video is loud. Go to 2:39.
(My apologies to moderating staff if posting this type of content breaches any type of rule.)

Well, this is what my G751 sounds like when compared my dad's K95. For me, this is an acceptible laptop sound. I think ASUS may simply have given up on driver changes and modified the laptop so that the Bass Eye is used a more powerful full-range speaker. This way you get generally more sound output wattage-wise and you also get the benefit of actual low-end. I think this is a fair trade for a slight sound disbalance - but we can't know for sure until we pile all of our machines together and run tests.

To further discuss the issue - how many of us here have noticed that the G750 has a slider for the Internal Subwoofer volume - and we don't? Anyways, that's my input on the issue so far:

Edweird, howz about a G750JH vs G751 test? Since you have both, that is the comparison that would make most sense... we are comparing like 2.1 configuration speaker systems.

Heh, perhaps I worded it wrong. My dad has a K95, which has the same sound system as this K75. The difference in audio between the G750 in the video and the K75 in the video is the same as the difference between my G751 and my dad's K95. Therefore it should be safe to conclude that my G751 sounds roughly like a G750 such as this one.

EDIT: Oh, I realize what you must have thought. This isn't my video - I found this on youtube and I am using it as an example. I don't have a G750 - you would have known this by now

Edweird, then how about a G751 vs K95 audio video?

I will do this as soon as possible. Possibly tomorrow.
btw, the K95 can give this G751 a run for its money with its built quality - those things pack full-size 3.5 inch drives and are built like tanks. Dad's one came with a 3TB one hah and a lovely i7-3630. Too bad they put 635M cards in 'em. Otherwise a very potent machine with a lovely 18.4 inch 1080 screen for a pretty decent price.

I'm looking at buying a SAGER/CLEVO assuming they have an aluminium build on the entirety of the machine. (Bottom panel can be plastic though)

Is the NP8671 like that? (I cant find any reviews..)

Short answer: Yes, where it matters.

Here's a video of the NP8651 which is just the 15 inch variant of the same machine.
    Linkeh!
