Strix GTX 980 and the LEDs on the PCB

There are 4 LEDs on the PCB right below the power connectors... what exactly do they tell me? Why are they there?

They indicate whether your PCIe cables are connected correctly or not. White means that your GPU is getting power while red means the contrary.
