Quick Questions about the upcoming ASUS GX500 (2015)

After looking around for a while and finding a few cool tidbits about this upcoming notebook model from ASUS, I've decided to ask what the general plans are for this notebook, in order to come to a decision on whether or not I should wait for it or not.

These questions are directed mainly at Forum Moderators or ASUS, though other users interested in this sleek notebook can chime in as well with their thoughts.

None of these are intended to be answered outright, though hints and general/vague answers would be very much appreciated. Without any further ado, here they are in no particular order:


  • Will there be both 15" and 17" versions of this series? (GX500 / GX700?)
  • Since the hardware has changed since the first announcement, will we be seeing a 960M or 970M (or equivalent) card in the new version?
  • Going along with that, has the display resolution changed? (FHD would be much easier to run and reach better settings during gaming than 4K on a notebook GPU)
  • Is it confirmed to be an all-metal/aluminium/alloy build?
  • Have the measurements changed at all since its annoucement?
  • What is the planned base price point for the GX500 line? (G751JT = $1,499 so GX500(base) = ????)
  • What is the estimated Quarter for release? (Q1, Q2, etc?)


Like explained above, general answers or vague hints are welcome if you cannot reveal too much at this point in time, and I can edit this first post to create a new source of information on this notebook if enough are answered.

    No such thing as 17" GX700, only 15" GX500 was shown. The slimmest 17" we do is G771JM

    Since the spec is already outdated it will eventually be revised to . For *any* 15mm ultrabook it is *always* limited in terms of thermal capacity. Unfortunately Nvidia doesn't publish TDP figures for its NB parts.

    No comment on future product. The NX500 with 4K/850M has launched in limited markets though AFAIK. Our US team did a video about it the other day.

    The GX500 shown was all alu. No comment on future product.

    No comment on future product.
