G74sx-dh73-3d Wifi issues... :(

I just installed my vertex 3 in my G74 and did a clean install of win 7 pro 64bit, updated windows, and updated all of the needed drivers from the forums (I think?).

My issue is when i try to connect to wifi my computer shows the available wireless connection then i click connect and then it says connecting but it ends with "windows was unable to connect to ..."

I am able to connect to the internet fine with a wired connection

Also it shows that the signal strength is one bar and I'm sitting right next to the router.

I have the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG wifi adapter with driver version 9.2.1.459.

Thanks I look forward to your help!

What model router are you using? Did you make any changes to it after the Windows clean install?

Did you restart your router and modem?

Is your router's SSID unique? (I want to confirm you are connecting to the right router - with only 1 bar, it sounds like you are attempting to connect to a distant router.)

Does Device Manager report the Atheros Wireless Network Adapter is working properly?

What is the Security Type and Encryption Type in the "Security" tab in Properties of your wireless connection (SSID)?

Can you confirm the Security Key you entered in Windows matches that of your router?

The device is working properly.

wps personal.

yes i can.

I also have two other asus laptops running fine on the wifi with great signal stength in other rooms, one of them happens to be the bb version of the g74.

How does the Security Type AND Encryption Type compare to the working G74SX? On my G74SX, I use WPA2-Personal security with AES encryption.

What Atheros driver version is running on the working G74SX?

Can you connect successfully if you set "Wireless Mode Selection" to "802.1 b/g" in the Advanced tab of Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Properties?

I am concerned about the single bar signal on the problem laptop. That appears to be more of a hardware type of problem to me. I'd feel better if you could report you had a strong signal at some time in the past on your problem laptop. If you can't make this claim, I'd be tempted to open the laptop and confirm the antennas are securely attached to the Atheros card.

Well what do you know. The guys over at XoticPc didn't find it necessary to reconnect the white and black antenna leads after installing my new CPU and I overlooked it when I installed my SSD (I guess I was just to excited to get this baby running!). But at any rate it is all together and running great ! I am having no issues and with this SSD my G74 is blazing fast not to mention the 28 sec boot!

Thank you so much for your help! It would have driven me insane trying to figure it out!

P.S I'm replying using my WiFi! lol!
