Better having both 980 Ti at x16 each than putting the Thunderbolt Dual/II and USB 3.1 cards in

I'll try that when i get a chance

I have yet to even power mine up, but I am very curious about the USB 3.1 card. I wish I was further along so I could tell you what I was doing about it, but my two-cents on the matter will have to wait till I look at it more in depth. What I stated above is about all I know so far, but as you can see from the second pic (which is found on ASUS's R5E site), the PCI-e lanes have to be dealt with in certain ways in order to take full advantage of them.

So Conclusion, if you want to run full on SLI 2 x 980 Ti each on 16x you can't install Thunderbolt Dual/II

Idk, yet . . . so far I only know where the 16 lanes are. I guess you might plug the Thunderbolt DUAL/II into the 8-laned 4th 'red' slot if it is not already occupied? If you have an M.2 SSD, and it only takes four lanes, and the Thunderbolt only takes four lanes, you might see if they will work together sharing the 8-laned bandwidth? (Just do NOT put anything into the 2nd 'red' slot if you want the 3rd 'red' slot to remain 16-laned.)

Did you use PCI x4_1 because it was all you had available? Or is the slot giving it all it needs for best performance?

It is like ASUS does not care to manufacture and sell them, but, teases with the headers-mind boggling.

Just want to help everyone. I have the ASUS EXP3 card and use an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 converter and it works great. I am using a Focusrite Thundrebolt 2 Audio Interface on my Asus Rampage V 10th Addition Motherboard. Here is what is connected

Asus Rampage V 10th Edition Motherboard
Focusrite Red Pre4 Thunderbolt 2 Audio Interface
Asus Thunderbolt EX3 Add In Card
    Apple - Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-th...?skuId=5687400

All is working great. Remember to go into the Bios and set the Thunderbolt settings to tell the Bios what slot the Asus Thunderbolt card is installed in. There is another post on here that shows the Bios settings to use.

I am one happy Music Producers.
