Multichannel 5.1 7.1 issue - using Headphones incl. working Workaround

Hi there,
just got my Phoebus and could cry... It sounds awsome but you can't set the audio channels? I mean really !?!?!
How should any surround solution work if the games/ movies can only pass stereo in? Dolby Headphone worked fine
for all other Xonars, if you set the channels to 5.1 or 7.1.
Now if i play an ac3 test avi, it all comes from the front. The subwoofer you can't even hear at all!

And as it looks they won't fix it (maybe if a new card will use the same driver) - but I don't think so.

There is however one workaround - Razer Surround Software http://www.razerzone.com/de-de/surround
Which adds a virtual device with multiple channels and does the sourrund simulation. The result will be passed to the phoebus.
But it requires to logged into Razer Synapse!

I most likely will still return the card.

In my opinion a lot of the reviews out there failed hard by saying the surround simulation sounds better then the DolbyHeadphone solution.

Just try one ac3 test avi like : http://www.tfm.ro/win32-projects/test-avi-ac3/

You will here the diffrence between Stereo, Xear 3D, Dolby Headphone and Razer Headphone (which in my opinion are the best)

If you don't want to installt anything before hearing try the following youtube video, this has to be watched in Stereo only!

Hi,

thanks for your post, it helped a bit.
coming from th DXG I got my phoebus yesterday and was disappointed at first... to get surround I have to activate the Xear Surround Option which sounds really bad?!
I can't change the preset profiles and just can add new one woth a stupid folder icon?

Then I read your post an tested the razer software, which works great...

Today someone told me that he likes the dolby home theatre the most, an i tested this... an this was really interesting.
In the option hit PCEEv4, and start the dolby software - Dolby Headphone is integrated there (same alghorithm).

So I deactivated the razer surround an activated the Dolby HT with a Game set... an it really works great in bf4.
I played 30 Minutes with this profile an wanted to compare the razer software again... it was terrible.. everything sounded hollow and steps were very silent now...
I checked all the options if I really misconfigured nothing, but everything was ok... very stange...
The next days I have to test it more...

I also checked then, that the preset profiles just change the configuration in the dolby software an there it can be changed an saved automatically.

One big problem i guess is the ASUS Driver... the included 3 different surround options, and 2 of them are unusable.
This is not very self-explanatory, the documentation of the software is really bad.

regards
