G750JZ and max external monitor resolution

I recently bought a G750JZ and am connecting it with an HDMI 2.0 cable to an external monitor. The max resolution I am getting on my external monitor is 1920 x 1080 despite the GTX 880M graphics and my monitor being capable of more than this. Is there something I'm missing here?

Help would be appreciated.

I too am having this issue. I have used a HDMI cable and connected it to my DELL U2711 monitor which has a resolution of 2560x1440.

With a max resolution of 1920x1080 everything looks horrible. I have set games to run via the Nvidia 3D Settings control panel, but it doesn't change the resolution at all, and all games are running @ 1920x1080 res, which looks horrible. And yes I have tried (in game) to change resolution and the max offering available is only 1920x1080 (this is for numerous games)

Is there a way to use the HDMI feature and get a monitor to display more than 1920x1080 max resolution?

To answer my own question it seems that a lot of high res. monitors, my own and the poster's above included, have a max resolution for HDMI to 1920 x 1080. I have a Thunderbolt to displayport cable on order so will see if that fixes the issue.

mDP - DP cable attached (via Thunderbolt socket) and resolution of 2560 x 1440 achieved. The issue was HDMI.

Hi hubris. Firstly I am much obliged that you posted this information - very interesting. I was wanting to purchase a G750 for 3D modelling, video editing and a variety of graphics applications. I was wondering what frame rates your configuration achieved with the 2560 x 1440 monitor? Is it running at 60Hz or just 30Hz or something else? Huge thanks in advance for your help on this question.
