If you want to tryout a program to analyze your boot times and what takes the longese, try WinBootInfo. It costs $14.99USD but there's a free 30 day trial, and a lot can be learned in 30 days.
- You want to know what is actually happening during the Windows Boot?
- You noticed that your computer takes ages to become operable after power-on, but you didn’t know how to see what actually gets to be loaded in your computer’s memory?
- You need a reliable tool for monitoring Windows boot performance over time?
- You want to optimize your computer’s performance and need detailed information about loaded system components?
- Windows Boot Time Logging
- Detailed information about loaded drivers, applications and system DLLs
- Each loaded system component is displayed on the detailed time map
- Tree-View of Loaded Processes sorted in time, with all belonging DLLs/Drivers
- Different times logged (boot to Login Prompt, Explorer, Session Manager)
- Detailed CPU utilization tracking during boot, per every CPU core
- I/O activity tracking during boot
- System Interrupt / Context Switch tracking during boot
- Text Log generation and Printing
- History Feature, for comparing current with the past boot results
You can also do a bit of boot time sleuthing By going to Event Logs >> Applications and Service Logs >> Microsoft >> Windows >> Diagnostics Performance >> Operational
Event ID
100 is a startup
101 is a degradation in load time
200 is shutdown
201 is a delay in shutting down
300 is standby
301 is a degradation in load time
Not sure yest what the other codes are. Driver variances I think.Read the User's Manual for more info.

OCZ Vertex 3 120GB -23 sec boot- That includes like 6 programs and the important drivers of coarse.
But my actual system boot is always at or under 11 sec!
I use a free program called Soluto that allows you to remove and or delay programs from your boot. It also keeps a nice chart of your boot times along with a web browser add-on manager and a crashed app manager. Its a really neat software.G74SX-DH73-3D

1:30-2:30 boot total boot up time is rediculous.. even with regular 7200 rpm harddrives..

Is that Soluto? I don't trust it. Too invasive. I noticed that it keeps timing a long time after Windows becomes useable, too. I tried that program for 10 minutes and got the creeps then restored to a previous patririon image.
Did you try WinBootInfo?Read the User's Manual for more info.

I think there might be something wrong with my hard drive. I might be the reason why my laptop is so "loud".. and when I play games that noise + fan combination might create that weird screech that my friends over Skype can hear. My 2 cents, I don't know.

I just checked mine on a near-stock installation. I've upgraded the BIOS and the Atheros driver (my replacement Intel 6230 hasn't arrived yet) and disabled a couple of the more obnoxious ASUS apps, but otherwise it's what shipped with the laptop. I booted up in 75.2 seconds. I'll be getting an SSD and performing a clean install at some point in the near future, but for now I just don't reboot often. I usually hibernate, and that's much faster to restore than booting up.
